In an effort to support nursing mothers and promote a family-friendly environment, UC Santa Cruz provides safe and comfortable lactation spaces across the residential, Coastal Climate, Scotts Valley, and Silicon Valley campuses.
The lactation rooms, available to faculty, students, and staff, provide private, sanitary spaces that are equipped with locking doors. Each room has a comfortable chair, table, electrical outlet, water source, and other amenities. There are three new multi-user hospital-grade electric pumps available in three of the spaces: Science Hill, the Humanities Building, and the Coastal Campus.
Personal, reusable lactation pump kits that are used with the hospital-grade pumps are available for purchase at the Bay Tree Campus Store. To purchase one, ask the cashier at the checkout counter for help.
Portable cooler bags are available on loan through the ADA Office. To request one, send an email to adaaccess@ucsc.edu.
Lactation spaces can be found in the Health, Safety & Facilities section of the UCSC | Interactive Map. If there is not a location room nearby, no more than a 10-minute walk away, mothers can reach out to the ADA Office at adaaccess@ucsc.edu to request that one be made available.
